MONTHLY MEETING. j I The monthly meettn<>- of the) Tauranga Harbour Board was held/in the Coronation Hall on ■Wednesday. I'resent : Messrs J. A. M. Davidson fin the. chair), D. Grant, C. Lally.. 11. J. Gill. T. Stuart. J. C. Adams, G. V. Stewart, H. Southey and Colonel Ward. —New Mefnber. — A communication from Mr J. H. Griliiths (county clerk), was read intimating thai Mr C. Lally had been appointed to fill tho extraordinary vacancy on the Harbour Hoard for the constituent district of Maketu and Te Puke Ridings. The Chairman welcomed Mr Lally, and the latter replied, saving il would be his earnest endeavour to advance the interests of the Board. —Boat Licenses.— Messrs A. Anderson. J. Stewart, C. Smith, H. P- Clarke. and A. Reid applied for licenses for vessels used within the harbour. It wa^ decided to veicv the applications, to the Harbourmaster with power to deal with same. —Blockhouse Reserve.—The Department of Lands, Auckland, wrote resection i!L>-" Apata Parish. The letter stated that the Hoard's application will receive due consideration and a definite decision will be communicated as soon as possible. —Received. | —Obstruction in River.— Mr J. Lockington, Katikati, wrote re obstruction in river, and intimated, that he would comply with the Harbourmaster's no t ice.—Received. —Observance of By-laws.— The Dominion Shipping Co., Ltd., Auckland, wrote stating they have noted the Board's. remarks re the clauses pertaining . spec tali ly to them., and said they will ask their captains to render the Hoard every assistance in maintaining the by-laws, as all charges are to be collected from the Company's, captains.—Received. . —Cost of Removing Tree.— .Mr E. H.... Gledstanes, Katikati, wrote acknowledging • the receipt of letter enclosing Harbourmaster's account for £(> 5s Id, costof removing tree from the Uretara River. Mr Gledstanes stated : "As-1 doubt the legality of the Board's claim I have submitted the whole matter to my solicitors, Messrs Wynyard and Skeltdn. Auckland, and they are to let me have an opinion, on the receipt of which I will at once communicate with you."—Received. --Marine Lights.--

1 The Acetone Illuminating and Welding Co., Napier, forwarded particulars re marine lightsHeld over. Harbourmaster's Report.--Captain Millar (harbourmaster) reported that the Marine Department has gazetted .that, the inner Whareroa black buoy is removed. He is placing this buoy iv position of buoy carried away by s.s. Ngapuhi. He has placed lights on Tuesdays and Fridays to the satisfaction of Captain Hauhain. The Clerk explained that he was arranging with the iSonhern Steamship Company re-1 garding the cost of the buoy « i chain and sinker. The Harbourmaster reported that it had been alleged that a number of stakes had been knocked down at entrance to Waimapu River ; also that certain boat-owners ignored warnings regarding lights. The Board went into" committee to consider the report. It was decided to write to the person injrmed requesting that the styles be replaced by him. Colonel . Ward moved—That the Harbourmaster be instructed to take legal proceedings against the next delinquent who was discovered running his boat without lights.—Seconded by Mr Grant and carried. —Costs of Harbour Board Bill.An account for X.l 5s od was received from the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce. This consisted of .Co os :kl. cost of advertising the Harbour Board Biil ; and =.L*<i, half of delegate^ expenses to Wellington to defend the Uill in its entirety against ihe opposition of the Katikati delegate. Messrs Grant and Stewart objected to the payment of the account. Messrs Southey and Lally favoured; the payment. Mr Stuart said the question seemed to be a legal one. The Chairman moved—Thai a
