A communication was read ut the meet ing. of the County Council on Tuesday from Mr .H. Konwav, chairman of the

.Cook County Council, who wrote stating that the {Native Minister has informed him he, will be able to receive the joint deputation from local bodies on either -June 10, 11, or \± Mr Ken way suggested that an informal conference of delegates be held on June (.), asking Mr Merries to meet them the following day ; then, .if necessary, the Uth would be available for a further conference; with the Minister.

A statement regarding Native lands in the Tauranga County was laid on the table, showing : Kates levied for year 19.12-Kf £005 0s 2d, rates collected C] 17s 0(1 ; area of unproductive native land in the county G5.0()«)a > 21 p. Cr. Stewart proposed—l hat in the opinion of this Council the only method to be. adopted for the collection of rates due by Natives is to revert to the orio-inal method of the State tc. discharge ih« liability by payment thereof to the local bodies at the close of the financial year and taking liens therefor nn the land! owned by Natives, therefore further expeditin<r the individualisation of titles u> the benefit of all parties concerned, and that this resolution be an instruction , from this Council to their worthy chairman when attending the conference to be held on this matter in Wellington during the present month. The mover said his object in proposing the resolution was to strengthen the chairman's hands at the conference. The motion was seconded by Cr. Lemon and carried nnaiiimouslv.
