LONDON, Oct. 25. ■Donald, editor of the Chronicle, was tlhal*g'od. with contempt of court in publishing a statement that Crippon had confessed. Donald v. as proved tovbe away on a holiday when the statement, appeared, but the court lined Perriss, the assistant editor, £200 and. costs. Judge Darling said the publication was calculated to prejudice the trial and it was grave cantempt to publish idle gossip. He was not prepared to substitute trial by newspaper for trial by jury.
