As a result of the rain this week three bridges have been washed away in the gorge between Waihi and Kati kati, while a large number of slips have also fallen on the same road. So far no coach has reached here from Waihi since Monday night. The local postmaster has received word that no mails by this route can be got through before Monday, when the contractor will run his coaches to each side of the damaged road, and the mails will then be carried by other means over the intervening space. Word has been received that the telegraph line is damaged at Athenree, and Mr G. V. Stewart left by special coach this morning to effect repairs. The Taoranga telegraph office has been unable to communicate with Auckland or Thames since midday last Wednesday. The line to the eastward of Taoranga down the coast has apparently not been damaged by the storm.
