SENSATION OX A STEAMER. SCOWMASTEWS MENTAL LAPSE. -A story of ths peculiar action of o naster of a scow has just ome to band. When the steiruer was off Cape olvilf, be took a.. vantage of a lurch of the veseel, caused by a heavy sea, to jump overboard. lustantly the cry of " man overboard " was heard, and the steamer waa turned round smartly, ancl a boat lowered. The unfortunate man, as soon as he took the plunge, commenced to swim strongly after the vessel winch had got some distance ahead of him He was picked up by the boat, and again brought on board in two or three miuutes from the tirm he took the plunge. On the arrival of the Waitangi at Auckland, he was brought before the .Court, and remanded to the Mental Hospital at Avondale, for medical observation, until Wednesday next.— Herald.
