By the energy of Mrs Rutland Turner quite a respectable sized parcel of clothing was shipped away last weak for the use of the New Zealanders joining the Contingents for South Africa. Mm Turner commenced with a Is subscription to purchase materials to } be worked up by a number of ladies who had promised to help, and in this way collected 453 6s, and received an additional sum I <if £1 Is 7d in larger ram? as follows : - Miss Louch, ss ; Miss Sommerville, 3s and (school) 2 Id; Te Puna school 4s : Mrs Hamilton, 58 ; Mrs Wood re ffe, 2s 6d. Wright, £2 16s 9d; from Mr W. Teasey, £l 10s lid. The parcel sent away contained 10 shirts, 10 undershirts, 20 pairs socks, 20 handkerchiefs and 2 Tarn-o l -shanters. The following ladies took a prominent part in making up the parcel : Mesdames Davidson, Armstrong, Howard, Wright, Chappell, Bell, Hamilton, Turner and Thomson ; Misses Bidpis and Cramer-Roberts.
