From the Valuer General covering a copy of the Valuation Boli of its Borough to be open for inspection. Besolved that application be made to the Valuer General for a quotation of cost of a copy of Valuation Roll. Gray applying to cut down certain plain and other trees in Sixth Avenue which are interfering with the growth of other and more valuable trees, namely walnut and chestnuts. — Beferred t<S the Streets Committee with power to act. From Emma Jones and others re the closing of Morris Street and the illegality of the Council's action in granting exceptional adrantages to a quarrelsome person by whom the petitioners have been keptin misery. Or Stewart moved a motion of which he stated he had givon notice, that the resolution of the Council giving permission to Mr Tutchen to enclose a portion of Morris St. be rescinded. Cr Hulme rose to a point of order, as he had received no notice of intention to move in this direction which was necessary in a rescinding motion. Motion ruled out of order by the Mayor. The Mayor proposed that the letter be received* . Seconded by tir Commons. iSr Stewart moved an amendmat that the letter be acknowledged and the petitioners be informed that the Council will give the matter earnest consideration. Cr Stewart said Topcroft iras becoming a perfect hell owing to their bad neighbour. Seconded pro forma by Or Spence. The amendment was lost and the motion was carried. From Messrs Tunks, Burrows and others asking that certain alterations be made on the Valuation and Burgpss Rolls. — The Mayor explained that the Council could not alter the Valuation Roll The applications re the Burgess Soil were referred to the Legal Committee. From Mrs Sheath asking that the Council talce steps to clear away obstructions on the road leading to* her property at Topcroft, also covering a letter to Mr Tutchen to the same effect. — Letter received, Ct Stewart diawnting. The Finance Committee reported that the Bank of New Zealand was prepared to advance the Council money for the contemplated work on the Town at five per cent, up to the legal limit. Cr Commons explained that »is would be about £600. The report was adopted. From J. H. Griffiths applying *or a refund of rates paid by him for Borough Endowment, lot 45, amounting to £2 ss.— Refund granted. From H. A. Sharp, solicitor, account for legal services, £4 6a lOd, in recent byelaw cases. Cr Maxwell moved that the account be paid and that the Inspector of Vehicles be instructed in future tbat he must J*Port to the Counoil before »«ns? action. Ct Murphy seconded.—Carried. joists ; hew decking at £3 8s per 100 feet run of 9x3. The tender of Mr J. Brain was j accepted. The Mayor again read the report on. the proposed estimate for the water supply scheme sent in by Mr A. W. Burrows and read last meeting. The Mayor moved that Mr Burrows be authorised to make the survey mentioned in his report, at a cost of £30. The Mayor said he hoped to see a water supply in Tauranga some day and the information Mr Burrows was to supply would be necessary before the scheme could be laid before the burgesses. Even if the Coun cil did not go on with the job now it would be useful at some future time when it would be wanted. Cr Hulme seconded. Several Councillors asked a number of questions and even tually Cr Commons moved an amendment that the matter be left in the hands of the Committee to see Mr Burrows again and get further information as to the difficulties in the matter of preparing an estimate. Seconded by Or Blick. For the amendment, Crs Stewart, Spence, Commons and Blick. Against, His Worship the Mayor, Crs Murphy, MaxwtU and Hulme. The Mayor gave his casting vote against the amendment. The resolution was then put and carried on the casting vote of the Mayor. Cr Stewart moved a motion standing in his name in the notice book dealing with the Topcroft difficulty. Cr Halme drew the Mayor's attention to the fact that the provisions of the Act had not been complied with in connection with this notice of motion that copies had not been sent to the Councillors. The Mayor said he regretted to have to rule this motion out of order. The matter should be brought before the Council but it must be done the proper way. Cr Stewart strongly protested against the way he was treated, he had warned the Councillors individually at last meeting that he intended to move this motion. He would take the matter before the Minister.
