TRITE BAYINGS FROM TRUTH.
The poor are so enormously grateful for any trifling kindness that they receive — from the rich.
There are two varieties of clever people ; the clever and the too clever.
Conceit continually passes for cleverness.
Affection with a woman is an occupation ; with a man it is an amusement.
The reason why women are so difficult to understand is that there is nothing to understand in them. Tbey themselves do not know what they will do.
If you are a coward, you will be attacked by the cowards; they are many. If you are brave, only the brave will attack you; they are few.
That man is the better who is more liked by those that are below him than bj those that are above him.
The cuts leave scars; happiness only memories and regrets.
Mr Cecil Rhodes is apparently anxious to make his countrymen believe that be is a harmless and necessary Rhodes. His recent speeches remind mc of the powerful lines written by Longfellow— but slightly altered :—
" The lies of great men all remind us,
We should make our lies sublime; And, departing, leave behind us Falsehoods on the sands of time."
