Floods. Sydney, October 6. — Heavy rains, combined with the 'melting of snow in the ranges have caused floods in the river Murray. Villages and towns on the banks aro affected and many people are rendered homeless and are seeking shelter in the public 'buildings. Wreck in a typhoon. Sydney, October 8. — The Airlie, from China, brings news of the total wrock during the typhoon, of the Sydney owned barque Florence Trent, the captain, his wife and f our children and fourteen of the crew were drowned. Only three of those on board survived. Thevossel was bound from Singapore to Shanghai with a cargo of timber. Sporting. Melboubne, October 7.— BrocMeigh is the favourite for the Caulfield Cup and 20Q0 to 180 has been accepted about him. *,' .-./■-' |
