THE MUTUAL.

At the usual weekly meeting of the 'Mutual', held last Thursday evening, 47 persons were in attendance. Mr B, O. Stewart occupied the chairi After the usual routine business had been disposed of, the Chairman in a few well chosen remarks explained the object of the Journal and called upon the Editor, Mr. C. A, Crabbe, to read the various productions. The following papers were rea4 during the evening: — Editorial remarks, Bachelor's hall (poetry), Football notes', Gossip about boats, Murmurs (poetry), Husband and wives' duties (X>oetry), Hinemoa, (poetry), Training of children, Darwinism, Short Stories. Opportunities of Youth, Habit of detraction; Some thoughts about love and marriage, The last toast; The Ladies (poetry), The usual spicy tit-bits wore interspered between the various papers. Messrs Gray, Buffua, Madden, Spence, Sinclair, Mrs Stewart and the Chairman criticised the various productions forming the Journ«4.
