The above match w. s played on the Katikati football field on July 22nd. -The weather was anything but desirable lhe rain started about 2.30 and continued almost up to the finish of the match, of course the rain sadly interfered both with the would-be apectators and the field itself, which waa covered with mud, and it was altogether impossible to run with the leather at all. . Foi lowing this the locals got a free kick in front of Waihi goal but by some mistake Waihi rushed tuo soon and spoilt ihe chance; immediately after this _- time waa called. During half time the ball collapsed and caused some delay. Katikati kicked off and by fast ft Uow ing up made things lively. Immediately things were reversed but Katifcati hacks returned well, a rcrum was nacked again and Waihi brought the tail still further down ; nvhen it ca-ne to the full back who returned rather poorly, Waibi kipked over the line and the home team were compelled to force. From the kick out Waihi backs again seized the leather and gained more ground, when Morrow made a good run and was well backed Up by Blakeney. From the throw in the ball went crooked and a scrum was formed, and Ansley getting tbe oval, made a good run and kicked well down the field. Soon afterwards Anderson and Moko failed to pick up clean until \\Taihi forwards were on them ; after some give and take play Waihi marked and the kick was a poor one. Katikati 1 returned well ; soon afterwards Ansley mat ked but with no berefit. From a scram Anderson got tbe ball and with a long drop sent it well home to Waihi. From the return Blakeney got the ball and carried 'it almost to Waihi goal line ere he was stopped when the ball went out ; from the line ont Katikati forwards, headed by Johnston, got on a splendid dribble right to Waihi goal line when Charlton kicked too* b&rd -and a force resulted. From the throw in A. Johnston and Blakeney started a dribble and brought the ball right to the opposing goal line when Katikati kicked too far and f .he visitors saved by forcing down. From the kick out Charlton again got the leather and dribbled dangerously near Waihi line when McGregor picked up and punted well j down the field to Gray who was slow to pick up and returned poorly. Waibi got on a dribble and centred play. From a poor drop tho ball rolled to our £ , who failed to pick up until Gray cama up and got the ball, by this time Waihi forwards were down on hira and they kicked over the line, and the local team was compelled to force. From the kick ou.t Waihi returned rather short, the homeforwards carried the ball to half way where McMillan picked up clean and made bis way right way up to the Waihi line where he unfortunately lost the ball. After a scrum, Johnston, Blakeney and Charlton carried the ball to Waihi territory again when Andrews kicked too hard and Waibi was compelled! t » force again. The game ended in a draw, each side scoring 2 points. . Messrs Flatt and Stewart acted as line umpires and Mr Mi Idlcbeook as referee.
