BOROUGH COUNCIL.

« The ordinary meeting of tho Borough Council was held on Monday at 2 p.m. present : — His Worship the Mayor, Ciri Gray. Ather, Galbrait-b, Hulmo, Sponcer, Fraser, Tait, and llbodcs. The minutes of the prerious meeting were read and confirmed. Outward correspondence was read and approved of. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Auditor General, requesting the Council to forward copies of balance sheet. Agreed to. From L. M. G :ace, saying that he had made arrangements for clearing furze as required by the Council. From the same enclosing . cheque for £12 on account of rates. From the Town Clerk, Auckland, asking tho Council to appoint a representative to attend the Municipal Conference to be held at Wellington. Agreed to authorise Mr Kelly, M.H.R., to act in the matter and to reply to the Town Clerk, Auckland, to that effect. / VICTOBIA WSASFI "r The committee appointed to confer with Mr Chadwick regarding the leasing of the Victoria/ wharf to the Borough Council, reported that they bad obtained an offer f aom Mr Chadwick as representative if the Victoria Wharf Company on/ the following conditions. I 1. That the lease le for a term of three years, and the/rent be £45 per annum to be paid quarterly. 2. The Borough Council to keep the wharf in repair, And hand it back at the expiration of tibe lease in good order and condition.! 3. The Council ti hold the wharf from Mr Chadwicjt subject to the terms on which it from the Marino Department] 4. That the traffic of steamers and Tassels shall (as far! as practicable) be equally divided beiween the Victoria and Town t^harf. ,■' Cr Spencer moved that the report . of the committee be adopted and that Mr Chadwiok's offer be accepted. ; The resolution was seconded by Cr . Galbraith and after some discussion curried. OBDINABY BUSINESS. Cr Spencer on behalf of the committee appointed to interview the Banks on the Borough loan question applied for, and was granted an extension of time in which to report. The Engineer was instructed to write to Messrs Odium and Smith Auckland asking them to supply a lamp for the Town wharf at a cost of £310. The following tenders for the supply and fixing of a pump and fitting! for the Jubilee well were opened. Joseph Brain £19 16s (accepted) A. Gilmore £31 125. Cr Spencer moved that the contractor for sinking the Jubilee well bo required Jo complete his contract within a fortnight, aad failing his doing so that no further payment be made to him. Seconded by Cr Galbraith and carried. Tenders for leasing certain of the Borough endowments were opened as follows;— -Endowment J. Lots 83, and 84, lection 2, T. Allely £1 Is per annum, (accepted). Endowment G. Lots 822, 827, and 828, flection 2. John Gilmore £1 per annum (accepted). Endowment £. Lots 744, 745^ 746. t-32, 833, 834, section 2, John Gilmore 7s 6d per annum (accepted). Endowment B. Lot 297, foction 1, B. Home £4 per annum (accepted) ; A. Stanton £3. V *~~ It wai resolved .that the Borough I solicitor be inetr dated to draw up a I lease of tlie Victoria wharf to the / Borough Council an accordance with I tihe condition! mentioned in the corner mjttees report. ? His Worship th© Mayor moved the notice standing in his name to amend No. 1, section 50 by adding % t& the following paragraph " Provide^ ..■*, tlbat farmers and settler* telling pro--Bnce of their own raiting shall not be liable to pay any fee" the words «* except that those farmers and ■attlers hawking meat for sale within tho limits of the Borough shall pay an annual fee to the Borough funds of £10. Seconded by Cr Eraser. Cr Spencer suggested that the amendment of the by-law would take f uJly two months by which time the annual slaughter license!
