Yesterday was celebrated throughout the British dominions the completion of the fifty years' reign or Jubilee of Queen Victoria. A great and glorious reign it has been. Under the ruling hand of a woman, Great Britain has reached the grandest point in her history, and the Ooloaies have sprung into nations. Great and glorious has been the reign, and one of the ablest and noblest women who ever lived on earth has been the ruler. The past history of royalty in England has been far from reflecting credit on the Sovereigns, and it remained for Queen Victoria to sweep from out the Court the traditions which had attached to it from time immemorial. The Court in her hands has been brought as near perfection as possible. Her circle has keen one of charmed purity, and her deeds of loving-kindness and practical sympathy have endeared her to the nation who are her subjects. From all the ends of. the earth yesterday went up the prayers of thanks-giving of a loyal nation for the glorious reign of which the Jubilee has just been .celebrated. Our own pretty town of Tauranga was foremost m the expression of loyalty and of joy at the great event. The cable bore to the hands of the Queen herself the hearty congratulations of the people of Tauranga on the occasion of the Jubilee. To Her Majesty, too, has been sent to-day's issue of the Bat of Pleett Times, printed on satin and bound by Mr "Wright containing an account of jubilee domgs here, and assuring her that though far distant from the throne the people of Tauranga have been as enthusiastic in their rejoicing as if they had lived under the walls oj the largest city •in the world. Our readers will join with us in expressing the hope that Queen Victoria may yet long reign over us, happy and glorious, and that future Sovereigns will be worthy of her noble example. In the generations to come will often be recited the story of the Jubilee just celebrated, and history's pages will re-echo the many and important events of the reign of
