Eemoval of Grass &c. — A letter read from Mr J. G ilmore asking for some shell or sand to place on that portion of the road cleaned \>y him in front of his house. Cr Gray moved in favour of the recuiest. Cr Clarebrough wanted to ki>.>w if permission had been granted i>y the Council for the work done. The Engineer said he had given perni)N* : nn. Cr Jordan seconded Cr G-rav'n proposition; carried. Marine Department. — Acknowledging receipt of letter from "Borough Council that that'body was not in a position to purchase Victoria "Wharf. A copy of same had been sent to the owners. Re Town Allotments. —The Mayor stated the result of his interview with the Rev. Mr Burrows and asked the Council to endorse the action of the committee in undertaking to pay legal expenses in carying out their proposals to the Rev. Mr Burrows. Resolved accordingly. Deputation which met Mr Sheehan — The rough minutes were read of what transpired at the conference which took place re Harbourßoard &c, the substance of which has already appeared in the Bay of Plenty Times. The Mayor explained to the Council the force of taking power in the proposed Harbour Bill to levy a rate if found necessary. Cr Conway wanted to Know how far the rate would apply, and he wanted also to know whether the committee agreed. — It was understood the rate should apply to the whole county, and the deputation agreed to the suggestion. Gr Jordan said the draft bill had been drawn up and would be duly notified. Payments. — Accounts for payment were submitted to the Council. Total amount £92 14 7, subject to usual conditions.
