WELLINGTON.
[by telegraph.] [FBOM OTJB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Monday. To-day has been observed as a close holiday. The Governor's levee was largely attended. The Volunteers performed their part of the usual honors on the Queen's Birthday at 10 o'clock this morning, and afterwards were engaged in a review and sham iight at Hutt Park. Among the amusements of the day the football match between Christchurch and Wellington teams took place at Newton Park in the presence of about 2,000 spectators ; and resulted in a victory for "Wellington by two tries to nil. Two more bodies, those of Neilson and Costello, who formed part of the boat's crew engaged in the Defence works, were found floating in the Harbour yesterday. Two other bodies are still missing. It is now nineteen days since the mishap occurred. An interesting case came before the Resident Magistrate at Blenheim this morning, under the Licensing Act. Information was laid by the police against a publican for selling liquor at the Druid's Ball in the Oddfellows' Hall, such place not being a place of public amusement within the meaning of the 36th Section of the Licensing A.ct. The publican held a conditional license granted by the LicenainglCommittee to sell liquor at the ball, but it was construed by the police that the committee had no power to grant the license as admission was by ticket, and the Druids had power to exclude the public. Mr. Allan, R.M.* said the point was very doubtful, ari@ j dismissed the information reeomnaendt. ing the police to have such an im.. portant matter tested by a writ of prohibition in the Supreme Court.
