THE PORT OF PARIS.
The old idea of making Paris a seaport,, ventilated in 1825, has again teen teken rup by^au engineer,- M. Bouquet (le la G-rye, who is a member of the institute. He proposes to deepen the Seine Rouen, where large vessels can sail or be towed up from the sea, and Poissy, a pleasant summer resort of many Parisians, within easy distance of the metropolis. The distance ,- to be deepened is something, oveitißiuetythree miles. The projector, however, says nothing of the dangers likely to rerf&ls *froirf* t°b&* numerous- islands which stud the :; Seine Poissy andßouen, and which would render driver navigation exceedingly dangerous "torfessek of large tonnage, such as ifhogb th|t pick their way so carefully Sroni Havre to Rouen. Paris its a #feappTt*ff ould, no doubt, be eminently .interesting ; but such a contingency yrould be a serious blow to Rouen, rjalready handicapped by Havre. The .Sjoßt%f deepening the Seine, with its ■jborJ;uouS' : winding» between Poisßy and "Ihe^Norman town, is estimated at six sjmlnonsVsterling. The engineers who, 3ri ls2s;^eoneeived this gigantic plan, I| pent £2,OQo:in .studying the problem, ■?Jmt thei? lajouis7:were interrupted by of 138C>, and the project since iri; abeyance.
