In discussing the above the opinion of the Council seemed to be that the department had misconstrued the nature of the application made by the Council. The Mayor thought there was some delicacy in repeating the request, as it seemed to him the County had perhaps more right to it than the Borough. Or Clarebrough reminded the Council that it was suggested to Mr Ballance that the right should be jointly vested in the County and Borough. The letter stated distinctly that there was no intention to alter existing arrangements. Cr Gray proposed that the letter as read be received. Seconded by Or Asher, and carried. Attention is also Irawn to the encroachments on the Stand by the Church Mission. The (Mayor suggested the Engineer be Instructed to carry out the resolution, passed by this Council some motths ago, to utilize the road metal >'as then described in the resolution. Resolved that the Engineer be dfcected to carry out said resolution, on/proposition of Cr Bodeli, second by G 1 Clarebrough.

"With reference to the suggestion to shell certain streets, Cr Maxwell thought that as there were only 130 yards of shell on hand it would be more satisfactory to define the streets to be shelled to avoid misunderstandings afterwards.
