TIMARU.
Friday. The races to-day were largely attended. The weather was glorious. The Timaru Cup was won by Administrator by a length from Lady Emma, "Wapiti a good third. Sou-wester and Grand Duke also ran. The District Plate was won by Free Trader. In the Hurdles, Moody was first and Linwood second. lv the three and a half mile Steeplechase, Linwood, list. 7, was firsfc, and Moody, list. 2, second. "Won easily. TheS.C.J.C. Handicap was won by Sou-wester, Wapiti being second, Lady Emma close up. A man named John Rock was accidentally run over to-day hj a traction engine belonging to Christie of Seadown. It appears deceased was walking in front of the engine, holding a. lantern on account of its being dark. The driver of the engine said the light suddenly disappeared, and on pulling up, he found that the engine had run over deceased, and partially crushed him. The man was brought into hospital, and died this morning. The deceased was a single man.
