AUCKLAND.
Monday. The Hinemoa which came by east coast, arrived this morning, having a torpedo-boat in tow. Major Cautley inspected the defence works at North Head to-day. In a few days, he proceeds per Hinemoa, to Bay of Islands to take measures to protect the coal. Charles Strong, waterman, was drowned accidentally by falling off the wharf. A fire occurred in Wakefield St. last night, destroying several houses.
