AUCKLAND.
Wednesday. Mr C. J. Stone, father of Stone Bros., died suddenly to-day of heartdisease.
Arrangements have been made by the Minister of Public "Works, with the City and Harbour Board authorities for men on their contracts, to give their services for a fortnight, at usual wages to complete the harbour defences.
The South British Insurance Co.'a interim dividend of ten per cent., is payable on the 24th inst.
The Mayor left for Waikato last night, to attend the turning of the first sod of the trunk railway. The ceremony was performed to-day by the Premier and Maori chiefs in presence of a large assembly of natives and Europeans.
