Sir William Jervois has expressed an opinion that the WaitermtaManuka canal, to cut the Auckland isthmus, is not a work of pressing necessity or essential to the prosperity of the city. His Excellency hah visited the Whau and Tamaki creeks at points where they approach the Manuka harbour, but has not come to any determination as to which would be the best route for the canal.
