KATIKATI SCHOOL BOARD.

On Monday, 27th inst., the annual election of trustees'to serve on the School Board for the ensuing year was held at the No. 1 School-House. The Rev W. E. Mulgan, Chairman of the Visiting Board, was, on the motion of Mr Vesey Stewart, elected to the chair. He opened the proceedings by roading the notice from the Board of Education convening the meeting, and then read a statement of the work performed by the outgoing Board during their term of office :— During the past year No. 1 School-House has been erected. A difficulty was experienced in collecting some of the money promised by Maoris, but Mrs Vesey Stewart generously stepped forward, and presented the required sum. Great delay had been suffered in the erection of No. 5J School through a settler not fulfilling his intention of giving a free site for the same Mv Preston, appreciating the dilemma of the Board, had, however, offered an acre of land on his farm. Here again there was much trouble in collecting the money, but Mrs Vesey Stewart once more promptly advanced the £15 required, thus enabling them to commence proceedings, and at the present time that school was near completion. The building was replete with every convenience, having a lavatory, whilst the Board of Education ' had undertaken to fence in the whole. A ballot was then taken for the election of new Trustees, and resulted in the following gentlemen being declared duly elected : — Captain Mervyn Stewart, Messrs George Vesey Stewart, J. Killen. Andrew Wilson, Joseph Wylie, junr., Latimer, and Rev W. E. Mulgan. After the proceedings were over, Mr Killen rose, and said : I beg to move a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs Vesey Stewart for the prompt and generous manner in which she came to the assistance of the Board during Mr Stewart's absence, in advancing the necessary funds for both No. 1 and No. 2 Schools.
