The Mana, cutter, sailed for Katikati yesterday, with a full oargo of merchandise. The Weslevan conference is sitting in Auckland. The only business of importance was the appointment of Mr Movley as President, i Eewi's Movements. By a telegram from the Waikato the Herald learns that Rewi has left for Taupo to arrange some land disputes in connection with the blocks which will shortly come before the Native Lands Court. Mr J. A. Tole has resigned his appointment as one of the Commissioners on Higher Education now sitting in Wellington in consequence of the critical illness of his mother. ) Resignation of Judge Heaie. Judge Heale, of the Native Lands Court, has resigned owing to ill health. The Mali SteamerIt is expected that the mail steamer will not get away for a fortnight. The repairs are proceeding rapidly. Attempt to Commit Rape. A man named Thomas Williamson Brown, a lodger in the Scotia Hotel, got into the bed of Mrs Evans, wife of the proprietor, while she was asleep, with the intent to commit a rape. She awakened, and the man impersonated her husband, but she detected the ] imposition, and screamed for help. The - man made his escape, but was subsequently i arrested. He will be charged at the Police Court to-morrow. 1 At Buckland's sheep fair to day the bidd- ] ing was languid, though showing an improvement on Saturday's sale. < Candidates for City WestIn view of the probable elevation of Mr Dignan to the Upper House, several Richmonds are in the field, including Messrs W.
