PRINCE ARTHUR'S WEDDING.

The marriage of the Duke of Connaught with Princess Louise Margarethe of Prussia, will take place at St. George's Chapel, Windsor, on the 7th February. The ceremony will be attended by the Prince and Princess Friedreieh Karl, parents of the bride, the Imperial Crown Prince and Princess of Germany, and other illustrious guests. From Truth. It appears from an article in Macnnllan of this month on the "Genesis of thotTimcn," that that "great journal was accidentally founded by a certain John Walter, horn in 1708, and bankrupt in 1781. The permanency of the connection of this name with such an enterprise is most creditable to any family, at the same time its jwosent condition inevitably suggests the flue peroration of Henry Grattan : "The Irish Parliament! I knew it well. I sat by its cradle ; I followed its hearse." . That Dr. Newman is to be made a Cardinal is not very probable ; the rules of his order forbid of Ids accepting the red hat ; and though this difficulty could of course be got over by she personal interposition of the Pope, the opposing influences seem likely to prevent an act of justice which would be most popular among English Catholic laymen. The ma;viage of H.R.H. the Duke of Connaught with Princess Louise of Prussia is to be solemnised at St. George's Chapel, Wind- ' sor, on the 7th February, with much state and with great festivities. Although it appears that a dramatic representation is not m the programme, yet I am pleased to hear that the Queen will take a prominent part in all the festivities. It is time that her Majesty should let her light shine at the gatherings of the Court. The royal bride is to be at- j tended to the altar by eight bridesmaids, tho daughters of two English dukes, of two Irish marquises, and of four earls — two being Scotch and two English. The dukes are j Bedford and Marlborough, the Marquises J Hertford and Conyngham, Earls Errol and Elgin, Bradford and Mount-Edgcuinbc. The household of the future Duchess of Connaught, as was the case with that of the Duchess of Edinburgh, is to be composed exclusively of English ladies.
