The latest news at Ohinemutu is that a notice has been. put up by the "Committee of Management" to the effect that. on. the Ist January, 1878, they are going to settle all disputes over the land-in this district. They have got five eases, already : three in Ohinemutu, and, two- on. Mokoia Island; the remainder of. their programme has not yet come to light;. I. believe, however, that they have passed several laws for the year 1878 !. It really is high time that the Government should take. steps, and insist on the holding of a sitting of. the Native Lands- Court in the Lake District. The natives here have actually sent in a great number of claims, and now refuse to-let surveys go on. This •" Committee of Manage-

ment" is comprised principally of men in receipt of Government pay ! '-' ' We have an old and learned friend staying up here just now, who I hear is going in for land on behalf of a Southern- Island- gentleman, on the top of this "-native- difficulty." ..He has been after land at Te Awahou, and another large- block commencing at H-tmurana, and f taking: a "Bee line" across to Te Puke,. and: thence back to Rbtoiti by the Kaituna River ; it is a very fine block of country, . but; I fear the title is. far from proving a good one.- In. fact, it, is rather too soon to start this kind" of ' game in the Rotorua district, as native affairs here are not at their best just now. L do not think that our resident County Councillor goes over the Ngae Road often j or lie would' Have- the bridges put in order; they will be quite impassable soon, or probably repaired when some serious accident' has happened ! THE CROPS.. Mr Scott, of Te Ngae,. has got' a splendid crop -of fruit this year; the walhut trees are loaded to the ground.
