TOWN BOARD: MEETING YESTERDAY.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the members of the Town Board was held yesterday at the office of the Secretary. Present; Captain Punks, chairman; Messrs Thomas Wrigley, Norris, and Conway. After the minutes had been passed the Secretary read the following letter forwarded to HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT. “Tauranga, April 20, 1874. Sir,——As trustees of the North Tauranga Highway Township Board, we wish to bring to your notice that on the 20th November, 1872, Captain Sellars, commanding s.s. Southern Cross, trading to this port, applied through us to the Provincial Government for, and obtained permission, to build a goods shed at the south side of the end of the wharf at Tauranga, subject to the control of the Board for the purpose of storing produce, &c., to be shipped by the steamer. Phis was to enable country settlers to bring their produce to town to be in time /or the steamer without having to incur the expense of storage and extra cartage in town, also to receive goods from the steamer that could not be taken away at once, or in wet weather to protect them from the rain, with the understanding that if required the shed should be removed on receiving one month’s notice. These were the terms upon wbic.i Captain Sellars obtained permission to and built this shed. These terms have not been complied with. We enclose a copy of the correspondence that has taken place relative to this shed, and to state that other complaints have been made to the Board since the letter enclosed was received. i his has been explained to Captain Sellars, and, notwithstanding, he has taken no notice of our letter, written to him, or made any alteration in the shed. We consider that he has treated the Board with the greatest contempt and disrespect, and therefore request that your Honor will compel him to comply with the terms laid down by the Board in their letter addressed to him—a copy of which is herewith enclosed—[The correspondence referred to has already been published.— Ed ] —or order the shed to be removed.—We have &c., “ (Signed) T. The following letter from Captain Turner, District Engineer, was laid before the meeting : “ Public Works Office, “ Tauranga, April 29, 1874. “Sir, —In reply to your favour of the 21st instant, I have the honour to inform you that, as the Beach Road was bounded by high water mark all along, it could have no definite width. However, no objection on the part of' the Crown will be raised to the road being made any reaonablo width.—l have, &c..

“ A. C. Tubneb, “ District Engineer. “ Thomas Henshaw, Esq., " Secretary North Township Highway Board, Tauranga.”

Some discussion ensued thereon, and it was ultimately proposed by Mr Norris, and seconded by Mr Wrigley, “ That the secretary be instructed to write to the Government through Captain Turner stating that the principal street in the township was a chain and a half wide, and that the Board deem it necessary that the Beach road being also a most important street should be the same width.” Carried. 3tß FIRTH WBieH.ET’3 POSTS “ AS IS TO BE.”

After some discussion, Mr Thomas Wrigley proposed, and Mr Norris seconded, “That permission be granted to Mr Firth Wrigley to erect two posts fop securing horses outside his store, subject to the usual regulations. Carried. Mr Oonway objected to any more posts being erected in the township. Mr E. G. Norris applied for permission for the same privilege, which was granted. Mr Conway still objected on principle. rBEANDAH. Mr Corbett’s application to erect a verandah to his shop on the Beach Hoad was granted—tho verandah not to be less than Bft in height lowest slope and in width to the kerbing of tho footpath. The members then separated.
