St. John's Club hold a social in the Schoolroom on Wednesday evening. Praotically the whole of |the business set down for hearing at to-days sitting of the Magistrates Court was settled out of Court, consequently the attendance of the Magistrate was not required. One defended case Rudkin v Adam (disputed ownership of a dog) was adjourned by the Clerk of the Court until next sitting. A couple of auditors, recommended by the Government Audit Department, have been engaged upon the books of the Milton Borough Council since the latter end of last week. In comparison with the record prices obtained for dairying land in the North Island during the few past years prioes in the South have remained at a reasonable level. This happy state would now appear to have ceased as at a Bale last week of land in estate of the late Donald Grant, Temuka, 111 aores were disposed of under keea competition at prises ranging from £6O to £BB per acre. As a result of the Y.M.C.A. National Committee's desiro to extend its country work, a proposal was made some twelve months ago to appoint a permanent secretary at Mitlon for -the purpose of organising the surrounding districts. The matter was left in abeyance at the time owing to the Associations pre-occupation with war work, but now the local committee has secured a defiaite offer of a resident organising seoretary. The initial difficulty of finance has been overcome by the very liberal way in which the local oommittee has been met by the oentral executive, and the local board of management has therefore accepted the offer. The new secretary is expected to arrive about the 15th prox. Mr Wm. Moore has resumed his work as hon. seo, in the meantime.
