COCOANUT ICING. An agreeable' variant for ' icing cakes:—« Take 2 cups sugar, 1 cup milk, a piece of butter the size of a walnut. Boil for 15 minutes, beat with, a fork till nearly cold, add a cup of desiccated cocoanut, and stir well. Spread on cake before it gets too stiff and thick. TO MEND GLOVE FINGERS. "When glove fingers wear out at the tips, turn the fingers inside out and machine round the ends, tapering to a point at each side. The gloves will be just a little shorter in the fingers, but not so much as to make them unwear- ; able if it is done carefully. ; TO CLARIFY FAT. Get from the butcher lib of rendering fat and %lb beef suet; pare off all discoloured or tainted pieces, and remove the veins; cut it up, put into a dripping pan, and place in a moderate oven until thoroughly melted, being careful not to burn. Pour off the melted fat into a large basin, and stir in as much boiling water as the basin will hold; keep stirring some minutes, and the water and dirty sediment will all settle.at the bottom... Set aside.4o eool, then remove the clarified dripping and put away in a cool place. It is better to use lemon-juice and water if the dripping is to be used for pastry or cakes. The juice -of one large lemon to a quart of water is sufficient. TOILET SOAP. Melt %lb white Castile soap with loz almond oil, over a slow fire. Remove from the fire and gradually add 2oz oatmeal, stirring briskly all the time. If fragrance is. desired, add 12 CJLrops oil of rose. Scatter the oatmeal 'gradually to prevent any lumps forming. This soap is said to be excellent for the skin. ACID DROPS. Take lib loai* sugar, 1 cup water. 1 tablespoon vinegar, lemon essence, Vi' oz tartaric acid. Put sugar, water, and vinegar in saucepan, and boil till it snaps like glass. Add few drops essence an dtartaric acid, mix well, turn out, and cut into small bullets, and flatten with finger and thumb.
