Little or no direct news is reaching New Zealand in regard to the strike in Australia, but a leading Dunedin firm has been advised by its Wellington branch that infermation has been received there that martial law has been proclaimed in Sydney. The store which it is proposed to build at Dunedin will be capable of holding some 15,000 to 18,000 crates of cheese, It will most likely be built of brick, with insulated walls, concrete foundations, 'and electric fails to control the temperature. Mr L. D. Coombs has been instructed to draw up plans s,H(I specifications, alid the builflillg, whkh it is estimated will cost aboil t £4OOO, should be ready in time for the incoming season's cheese. •At the fortnightly stock sale on Friday at the Balelutha Corporation yards there was a large yarddiig bf sheep and a medium yarding 6f cat We. Prices for both sheep and cattle were about on, a. par. with the previous sale. There was a large attendance of buyers and bidding Was animated. Mr Wm. McDowell, of '' RivermeacV * East Gore, has received advice that his son, Captain A. Logan McDowell, has been wounded in action in Prance. This is the second iime Captain McDowell has been wounded. He was recently ■awarded the Military Medal for distinguished conduct on the field. Captain McDowell is' a brother of Mr W. G. McDowell, of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand.
