Milburn-Clarendon Notes.

—= ■* (From Our Own Correspondent). '• Lucky you don't iive in the Taieri," i heard ti man say as we surveyed the miles of waters that stretched from Clarendon to Outraru and from Henley to Berwick, Well, we have had the xain, quite a loc of it, bat nob much damage was done, although it makes things very disagreeable. Stubble ground is saturated and turnip ground is sploßh, but we have much to be thankful for, so " Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag, and smile, smile, smile." Another of our lads has been home on final leave, namely, Private John Shanks of Circle Hill. A large number of Circle Hill residents assembled at Mr Wilcox's commodious residence at Fort Hill last Tuesday evening to say au revoir. Short appreciative speeches were given by Messrs .J. Hagen and Wilcox, and the former presented the departing soldier with a wristlet watch, military brushes, fountain pen, and New Testament. Songs, musio, and recitations filled in a pleasant evening, and cheers were given for Private Shanks and his mother. One brother has been at the Front for a long time, and two othera go into camp shortly. Several more of our boys are expeoted down this week x The school is closed for tbe winter holidays. The committee have struck it right this time.
