CLUTHA PRESBYTERY.

The Pi'esbytery of Clutha met for ordinary business, at Milton on Wednes- ' day of this week, when there were prcs- | ent the Rev. Mr Morton (Moderator pro tern) and Messrs Currie, Cuttle and Mc- ' Cully (ministers) and Messrs McSkimming, Edwards, Nelson, Thomson, Campbell and Kilgour (elders). Apologies for absence were received from the Revs. Watson, Williams, Dunvard and Ponder, and from Mr Edie. The Moderator extended a heai'ty welcome to Mr McCullv as a new member of Presbytery. It was agreed, on the motion of Mr Currie, seconded by Mr McSkimming, to express the Presbytery's sincere sympathy with the Rev. Mr Watson in his illness, .and its hope for his speedy restoration to health. Tt was agreed, on the motion of Mr McCully, seconded by Mr Edwards, to express the Presbytery's sincere sympathy with Mr .John Edie and family in the death of Mrs E<|ie. Mr McSkimming thanked the Presbytery for its with him and his in their recent bereavement and sorrow. Arrangements were made for the supply of. Warepa pulpit for a few weeks, and the'matter of further supply, if necessary, was left in the hands of the clerk. Mr Morton reported 011 the Ovvaka vacancy. The rlerk reported that the Cliitha Presbytery was the Assembly's Committee 011 Protestant Principles, and moved, and Mr McCully seconded, and it was agreed to, that a committee consisting of Messrs Dunvard, Ponder, MeCaw and Edie be appointed to attend to the matter and report to the Presbytery. It was agreed to appoint Mr McCully (in Mr Tylee's place) as the Presbytery's representative 011 the Youth of the Church Committee. The consideration of the question of establishing a Clutha Presbytery bursary was deferred till next meeting. 1 On the. motion of Mr Currie, seconded by Mr McSkimming, a committee consisting of Messrs Morton, Cuttle and McCully was appointed to consider suggested amendments to the Book of Order, and to report to next meeting. On the motion of Mr Currie, seconded by Mr Cuttle, the following motion was agreed to: "The Presbytery (rails the attention of the congregations within the bounds to the fact that this is the year for the no-license poll, and urges ministers and olUcc-be.'trers to do what they can, through Bands of Hope and other temperance organisations, and from the pulpit, in the way of educating the people with the view of obtaining a good vote 011 both issues." On the motion of Mr McCully, seconded by Mr McSkimming, it was agreed that the attention of ministers and sessions be called to the Assembly's recommendation that classes for the training of leaders for Bible class and Sunday school workers be established, as far as possible, in each congregation. On the motion of Mr McSkimming, seconded by Mr McCully, it was agreed to direct deacons' courts to give congregations an opportunity of contributing to the collection for the Theological College (Knox College). Jt was agreed to meet for ordinary business at Milton on Thursday, June 1.1, at 10.15 a.m., and for the induction of the Rev. S. Robertson Orr to Milton 011 the evening of that day at 7 o'clock.
