OBITUARY.

ALEX. LESLIE, Aged 61. The late Mr Alexander Leslie, whose death ocourred on Saturday last, was born at Keithhall, Aberdeenshire, in 1851. While quite a young man he came to New Zealand, with other members of the family, to join his brother John, who had previously settled in the colony. He remained in Milton for a short time, but subsequently was employed in farm work in different parts of Otago, eventually returning to this district, where he soon afterwards acquired the farm known as Keithhall, which by good farming and careful management he converted into one of the most productive little properties on the Plain. About a fortnight ago Mr Leslie had a severe attack of influenza, but no serious results were an ticipated. Towards the end of last week, hoWever, hemorrhage of the brain sup* ervened, and ho passed away as above stated. The late Mr Leslie was a man of sterling and upright character, respected by all who knew him. Although never taking any part in public affairs, he formed shrewd opinions on questions of current interest, while on matters connected with his occupation his advice was always sate and reliable. He leaves a widow and two daughters to mourn their loss.

Mr Robert Clarke, of Tinwald, died on Saturday last, at the advanced age of 80 years. In the early days of Otago Mr Clarke was engaged in waggoning to the diggings at Waitahuna, and also to the Dunstan, afterwards following farming pursuits in the Clutha. He was a wellknown breeder of Clydesdales, and won several medals at Clutha and Tokomai* riro Bhows. He afterwards removed to Ashburton district.
