KAITANGATA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the above council was held on Wednesday night. Present—the Mayor (Mr Yatesi) and Ors. Hunter, Aitchison, Wilson, Coulter. Hislop, Carson, and Espic. The Mayor referred to the dentil of the King, and the following resolution was carried by the councillorsstanding.—"That this council desires to express profound sorrow at the untimely death of our beloved King, and desire to express their deepest sympathy with Queen Alexandra and the Royal family." The council adjourned for a few minutes.

Correspondence. The County Clerk, Milton, wrote asking council to pay half-cost of metalling 5 chains of road leading to the. Kaitangata Cemetery ; estimated cost £2s.—Works Committee and Inspector to inspect and confer with' the County Inspector, with power to pay half cost. T. Middlemass, secretary of Association Football Club, asked permission to play football on the Domain.— Granted ; the various clubs interested to arrange among themselves for the use of grounds.

G. Macdonnell advised that he had sold his property to Mr Burrows. Referred to clerk. Financo. The following accounts were passed for payment, on the motion of Crs. | Wilson and Carson W. Bradley (labor) £9 12/, R. Burns (labor) £5 5/, H. S. Hitohon 8/, T. Wilson (carting) £4 11/, J. Sharman (lighting) £lO 4/, Jas. Hislop (gravel contract) £sl 0/8, D. P. Clements (salary) £9 12/, offica expenses £J 2/3, Hospital Board £3, Charitabfe Aid Board £3 .10/, A. Forrest (labor) £1 4/, Powail (labor) £3 4/, W. Carson (cemetery) £2 1/. Inspector's Report. The Inspector reported the works that had been attended to by the dayman Regarding the breakneck on Start street, it has been surfaced and the water cut oil, but after rain it will become very slippery and danger- | ous, and will reouire a metal surface before it could make a satisfactory footpath. He recommended that cinder s be put on, as they would make good surface for one winter. The road leading to Mr Aitchison's, sen., requires about 20 loads of maintenance gravel.—lt was decided to put cinders on the footpath at Breakneck Hill, and that the footpath in Wellington street be gravelled and a few loads of dross be put on the road.

General. The Mayor reported that he had authorised the erection of a flagpole at the Council Chambers.—lt was decided to drape the Council Chajmbers on the day of the King's funeral. The Inspector was appointed to inspect and report on improvements required on Old Coast Road leading to the hospital. Cr Carson said he thought that Victoria Park could be improved by planting a few more trees in itj—lt was decided that the council inspect the park to see what should be done. Mr John Brown was reappointed caretaker. Tho tender of Mr Jas. Hislop for Exe street contract was accepted, the price being £23 18/. * The following committees were reappointed Works—Crs. Coulter, "Wilson, C arson, McVie ; Finance—Crs. Hunter, Aitchison, and Espie ; Lighting—Crs Hislop and Jackson. The Mayor and Cr Hunter were empowered to sign cheques.
