KAITANGATA.

(Clutha Loader Correspondent.) DEATH.

It is with deep regret that I have to record the death of Air W. Ramsay, which took place at the Dunedin Hospital on Monday. Deceased was an old and highly-respected resident of Kaitangata. He had been ailing for some time, and went to the Dunedin Hospital about a week ago, where ho underwent an operation. The operation was successfully performed, and deceased appeared to be improving till Monday, when he suddenly collapsed and expired. Deceased leaves a wife and grown-up family of five daughters and six sons to mourn their loss, and they have the heartfelt sympathy of the community in their sad bereavement. The funeral took place on Thursday, the place of interment being the old cemetery. A large number attended to pay their lat;t respects to their late respected townsman.

ACCIDENT. What might have been a very serious accident happened at Kaitangataon Monday morning. A young man named Knox was driving a spring-cart containing a !adv named Airs Barnes and her two children along the narrow roadway leading to the railway siding. Knox did not see an engino in the siding when lie started to go in and when the engine started oft tho horse became restive, and backed the cart on to the rails. The result was that the engino struck the cart, turning it completely over and on top of the occupants. Luckily the cart fell against the fence, which saved them from being pinned underneath. Willing hands soon removed the cart, and it was found that the occupants had luckily only received a shock and a good coating of mud. The damage to the cart consisted of a broken shalt and spring, while the harness was also broken.

DIPHTHERIA. Diphtheria is still racing in our midst, and several fresh cases arc reported this week. Three eases aro reported from one house. MISSION. A very successful 10 nights' mission, conducted by Mr J. W. Stephens (Singing Evangelist) was brought to a close on Tuesday evening-. The meeting took the form of a service of song, and was greatly appreciated by the large audience which attended. The singing of Mr Stephens was a treat to listen to. FOOTBALL.
