Protective Works at Inch clutha

The following extract from a copy of a letter sent by Mr Allen to the Minister of Public Works on 23rd August, 1906, is reprinted for general information :

Protective works, Inchclutha £SOO. I have had considerable correspondence with the Department of Public Works, Mines and Lands upon this question last year and previously, and I can only urge very strongly the importance of this work. Dredging on the river and the drifting of tailings has raised the bed and is a serious menace to Inchclutha. Settlers have taxed themselves, as I have already stated in correspondence giving details, to the utmost capacity and something must be done in this matter. I have urged and again urge that an officer of some department should at once be sent to report on the steps to be taken to protect the settlers ot Inchclutha.
