THE NEPAUL.
Dr. Fuhrer, Ph.D., Government surveyor j of the N.W. Provinces of India, attaches J great importance to ths discovery of the Asoka Pillar,, in the Napaal Tarai. The inscription on the pillar establishes the fact that Budha Kona Kamana is the same as the Konagmana of the Ceylonese Buddhists, who was the 23rd mythical predecessor of the hiatoricaJ Buddha. This strengthens the probability that Buddhism is of much greater antiquity than is- generally believed, and ia, in the opinion of Dr. Fuhrer, strong evidence that it dates at least to 477 b.c.
