THe Weather.

After a spell of fine weather during last week a change set in on Sunday. Inthe early part of the morning the skies were overcast, but the ominous signs cleared away, and old Sol shone forth in all his glory, and tempted several unwary people to go for a day's outing to the Coast, or on a more unpretentious outing to the Bruce Rifles' encampment. However, the conditions again became v threatening- iri^ the afternoon, and. rairi. began to fall about three o'clock, and continued unceasingly nntil Monday morning. Those who had paid a visit to the Coast returned home not wiser but wetter people. , Intermittent showers fell on Monday, while on Tuesday there was an incessant fall, which culminated in a downpour of some hours'duration during the evening and night, and as a consequence almost all the creeks in the district overflowed their banks, and did considerable damage'tu tne crops in adjacent paddocks. Oii Tuesday evening the Bruce Killes suffered no little inconvenience, as a stream of water was rushing through'the camp, while miniature lakes were dotted here and there, one of which extended into the marquee where- the smoke concert was being hel.J. On Wednesday the water was over the roa-is at several places to a depth of about three feet, notably at Milburn, Fairfax, and "between Milton and Clarkesville. Early on Thursday morning a terrific thunderstorm was experienced, the lighting lasting lor a considerable time, the flashes being of a most vivid description, afterwards there was a very heavy lail 01 rain. A culvert on the road to the mouth of the Tokomairiro Kiver was completely washed out, and the road is blocked for traffic, but the county engineer (.Vir Nelson) informs that repairs will Oc: put in hand to day, and that most probably, the road will be passable l-y to-night No further damage in the county is reported.
