A PROTEST.
* [To The Editor.] SIR,-J'ermit me through your valuable columns to raise a protest against what I consider an injustice to the Kaitangata Cricket Club. I notice in all the conspicuous places in our township (hat the Taylor-Carrington Co. have been billed to give a performance here on. Wednesday evening. Now, Sir, our Club is giving an entertainment lor the benefit of the club's funds nexr Friday evening. The club is not in the habit of making . an appeal to the public for financial assistance, whereas the Taylor Carrington ' Co. Have appeared here very often recently, and ; reaped a harvest of shekels. As a member of the Cricket Club I think it is time we had an innings, and we will allow the Taylor-Carrington Co. to resume its innings with the public afterwards as often as they like. Fair play is bonny play ; live and let live is our motto, and I trust that the plea-sure-seeking public will carry out this principle, and not allow the travelling dramatic company to prejudice the local Cricket Club's interests. So roll up on Friday night, and give the local " niggers" a turn. —l am, etc., Member or Cricket CLtK. Kaitangata, L>ec. 19th.
