Cricket Notes.

.». [By " Thumper "] On Saturday afternoon the local men journeyed to Lawrence to play the return shield match against the clut there, and suffered defeat by sever wickets. After the very cold drive the Milton men felt in better form for football than cricket. Richards woe the toss from Thomson, and elected tc take the field, Andrews and Bowie taking strike to Clark and Hilton, Disaster followed disaster, and in an hour the whole of the team were disposed of for 42 runs, Brownlee being top scorer. Donald Reid, a High School boy, showed promising and neal play, but was unfortunate in being rue out. Lawrence opened very cautiously and treated the bowling with great respect. With the Bcore at 12, Canon Richards was given out l.b.w. to Thomson, and a few runs later Frank Reid dismissed Hilton by a splendid catch in the long field. With those two batsmen out for a small score, the hopes of the Milton men arose somewhat. With the scores at 30, Roscoe was clean bowled, and then Lockhart and Fisher, by vigor ou3 hitting, knocked up the re? quired runs. The result of the match preclude;* the Leal team from any chance they had of annexing the shield. After the match, which was played in a very friendly opirit, the visitors sat down to a very sumptous spread in host Montgomery's Hotel. The return journey was commenced at 8.30, and it cccupioi i:b )ut three hours. Following arc the scores : —

Waitahuna are unable to send a team . to Milton on Saturday to play the shield fixture. This match will probably take place on Wednesday, the 18th February. The Waihola cricketers have invited a Milton team to play them any Saturday, and on Saturday first a team will probably go down.
