IN MILAN.
• There is a silver lining to every cloud,' says the proverb, and a striking exemplification of its truth is related of M. Le Koyer, who was once President of the Frenoh Senate. M. Le Royer and a f . iend, M. Lepere at that time Minister cf the Interior, once visited Italy during the vacation, and arrived at a hotel in Milan. Immediately he alighted M. Lepere ran upstairs to examine the apartments, whilst the president repaired to tbe manager's office, where he remarked to his host : ' The gentleman I am travelling with is the Frenoh Minister of the Interior' — and then, as an after thought, he added-^' and now, I'll look after the luggage.' Whilst they remained at Milan, M. Lepere was overwhelmed with attentions, whioh gave him more annoyance than pleasure, for his companion was treated in the most cavalier fashion in co_parison. This mysterious conduct was, however, explained when the bill was presented, for whereas M. Lepere had to pay at the rate of twenty francs a day, M. Lb Royer had to disburse but five— the manager _%d auitgken hjj» for a courier^
