KATANGATA COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the Fourth Contingent Committee met in the Borough Chambers on Saturday evening at 8 o'clock p.m. Present —His Wotsbip the Mayor, Captain Rutherford, Lieutenant M'Laren, Messrs Fred Fuell, Jno. M'Corley, . Alexander Blackie, John Caird and Henry Cornish. ■ f > A considerable amount was collected, but as all the lists are not in it is impossible to give the exact figures. Mr Cornish irilimated that Mr W. P. Watson would give £5 or £10 towards a horse to be called " Raiitwgata." IMtIP. SP, Poole (chairman)-beg-ged to think MrWatson for his generosity, and also promised a guinea on condition, that the horse be handed over to Captain Rutherford, who has sent in his name as a volunteer. — Ofier accepted with thanks. The Mayor, Lieutenant M'Laren and Mr John Caird were appointed a committee to wait on Mr Broom, the coal company's genial manager, to arrange as to which would be the most suitable day on which "" to grant the men a half holiday, as it was the intention of the committee to hold ■ports and. concert. . To ensure success it was necessary to secure the co-operation of the men employed by the Company. ... .■■".'
