Milburn

(Fhom Oitb Own Cobbbspokdknx.) A public meeting was held in the Milburn School on the evening of Thursday, Bth inst., at 7.30 p.m. to hear a report from the Church-building Committee. Mr J. Shore took the chair and explained the purpose of the meeting, inviting anyone present to speak their mind regarding the plans, cost or management of the work, or to offer suggestions for future guidance. The committee who had been appointed to get the church built did not wish to do anything in a hidden way, but they desired to carry out the wishes of the people, so if anyone had any remarks to make then was the time. To show what had been done, he would call on Mr Somerville to read a report of the proceedings up to the present date. Mr Somerville then gave an account of the separating of Milburn as a mission charge under the jurisdiction of the Milton Church session — of the appointment of the present committee, of their meetings, canvassing for money, the different estimates for the building, ! their endeavor to reduce the proposed cost to suit their purse, and how finally they had resolved to adhere to the original plan and have a creditable piece of architecture even at the risk of being a little in debt. — -Mr Paul moved the adoption of the report, seconded by Mr Henderson. The meeting was then asked to nominate a new committee or additional members to the present one, and Mr J. Smith moved — ■" That this meeting confirm the election of the present committee, and add the name of Mr Shore to the number." — Seconded by Mr Paul. No other motion being made, Mr Shore said the next thing they had to think of was how to raise about £100 more than they yet had, so that they might have the pleasure of entering their church free of debt. He (Mr Shore) offered to give a lecture with yjews of New Zealand and Africa, and would be glad of any suggestions as to raising the money. Mr Henderson thought they might easily get up g, concert, some Dunedin singers having pffered their services wheji called on, Ajr Sutherland proposed to form a ladies' guild to work for the church, and after a little talk a ladies* committee was formed with power to add to their number*
