Bruce Cycling Club

o lhe first aunual' meeting of the Bruce Cycling Club was held in McFarlane's Temperance Hotel on Friday evening, the 29th ult. There were about 25 members present, and the President, Mr J. Duthie, occupied the chair. Ah apology for non-attend" ance was received (from Rev. Father O'Neill. The minutes of the last general meeting were read and confirmed. The report as published in our last issue, and the balance-sheet, showing a credit balance of 14s, were read by the acting-secretary, Mr J. M'Leod. The president, in moving their adoption, said there was not much to be added to the report as presented* The committee had done everything in their power to get a ground for laying down a track, but had been unsuccessful. He thought, however, that the club would be able to purchase a ground in which he himself was in" tei'ested, if no other could be procured* Should they decide upon doing so, the financing would be easily arranged. Owing to the position in which he would be placed in the event of negotiations being opened up, he had tendered his resignation as their president, as he could not well occupy the two positions. He would, however, assist the club in every possible way, although not an active member. He had much pleasure in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet. — The motion was seconded by Mr Thos. Johnstone and carried unanimously. OFJTICE-BEAREKS. The election of office-bearers was then proceeded with and resulted as follows: President. — On the motion of Mr M'Clymont, sec. by Dr Sutherland, Mr J. W. Petrie was unanimously elected. Mr Petre briefly returned thanks for ' the honour done him, and said that no effort of his would be spared to make the club a success. Vice - presidents. — The following gentlemen were duly elected : Dr Sutherland, Rev. Father O'Neill, R. A. Pyke, Esq., G. Roberts, Esq., A. BHaggitt, Esq., H. G, Coombe, Esq., W. W. P. Hall, Esq., and A. E. Stewart, Esq. General Committee : Messrs J. B. M'Clymont, T. G. Grant, H. M'William, T. Johnstone, li. Moorhouse, D. M'Donald, T. Henderson, R. C. Marryatt, and C. L. Grant. Secretary and Treasurer : Mr M'Clymont moved and Dr Sutherland seconded, that Mr Jas. M'Leod be elected to the secretary and treasurership. Captain : On the motion of Dr Sutherland, seconded by Mr R. Robertson, Mr T. J. Grant was elected. Vice-captain : Three nominations were received, Messrs D. M'Donald, J. M'Clymont, and H. M'William, the ballot resulting in Mr M'Clymont being elected il andicappers : Dr Sutherland moved and H. M'William seconded, that three handieappers be appointed. Four nominations were received, and a ballo*?resulted in Messrs A. B. Haggitt, H. G. M'Clymont, and T. J. Grant being elected. Delegate to the League t Mr D. Duncan, of Dunedin, was unanimously appointed to represent the club, GENEBAL, The subscription was fixed at 55. ; all subs to be in by 31st October. The opening day was fixed for Wednesday, 18th October ; the destination of the run being Mount Stuart. A hearty, vote of thanks to the retiring president concluded a very enthusiastic meeting. A meeting of the committee was j subsequently held, and a deputation I consisting of the president, secretary, • Messrs R. A. Pyke and A. B. Haggitt, I was appointed to make arrangements ' for the purchase of a suitable ground, and to report as soon as possible.
