(From Odk n wH <"orrkspoxdkvtV Monday. A concert in aid of the school funds was held on the evening of Friday, September 1-3, and proved a <rrcat success. The performers, "with one exception, were all purely local, and I am sure 1 can safely say that | there is no need to go outside the district for talent when we have so I many local entertainers available. The committee will net between seven and eight pounds for the school funds, which is very satisfactory. Miss Fraser (who is at present relieving Mr JBonnin) and Miss Uonnin deserve great credit for the way they had the school children trained to go through their items on the programme, and it was really a treat to witness. Mr Morton (chairman) and all the other members of! the school committee seemed to be indefatigable in their efforts to make the entertainment a success, The concert was opened with an overture by Mr fcomerville, followed by Mr W. Smith *' The I:s am n o' the Door," which was greatly appreciated by the audience. The next item was exercises by the school children, which were gone through very creditably. Miss Crane then sang " The Valley by the Sea " very nicely, which was followed by a recitation '• The Siege of Lucknow " by Miss Wisnesky. The next item was a song " Never trouble trouble till trouble troubles you,"' which was well rendered by Mr Morton, followed by a duet by Miss Fraser and Miss J-Sonnin. Mr .Robertson then gave a Scotch reading " \yha stole the too," followed by a song from Mr Scott entitled " The midship mite."-' The next item, was a recitation by Mr Salmon, " The cruise of the .Nancy 13 ell," folio .ved by a song by Mrs A. Yorston " Come birdie come," which was rendered in her usual good style. A farce entitled " Sargant Ford " by Andrew Bros., and which was greatly appreciated by the audience, concluded the first part of the programme. The second part opened with an overture on the pianoforte by Mr Somerville, followed by an action so,ng by the school children.
