n* (From Our Own Correspondent. ) The long spell of fine weather has enabled the farmers to get well on with the sowing. It is a pity that their prospects are not brighter; but oats at Is 2d per bushel, and other lines correspondingly low, make farming very up hill work indeed. Our Horticultural Society, at a late meetings decided to adhere to the date originally fixed for .holding the showSeptember 27th. Everything is so backward owing to the long continued frosts that it was thought at one time that it would be absolutely necessary to postpone the show ; but things haye improved somewhat, and as a postponement might clash with Lawrence arrangements it was, as I have already stated, resolved to go on with it. Weather permitting, we expect to see a large gathering of the public. Our Church of England friends are to have a visit from the Bishop, who holds two services here on Sunday, the 17th, morning and afternoon. The offertories are to go toward extinguishing the debt on the church. On Monday, the 18th, a social will be held in the Good Templers' Hall, and if the night is fine a large attendance may be expected. Notwithstanding that the Good Templers have a concert on Friday of the same week, and the Horticultural Society have their show in the beginning of the week following - — too much of a good thing in so short a time. A pity, as some of the events will suffer through being crowded one on top of the other. The Imperial Dredge started work again at the beginning of the week after an enforced idleness owing to a break down. If she is scooping up the gold, and they say she is, the fact is known only to her owners. M'Kenzie and Company's new dredge was launched on Monday morning, a number of "the residents being present.
