An amusing, and probably the latest joke concerning the electric light is jusfc going the round of the Bedfordshire papers. Ifc seems that at Bedford and old lady, on seeing electric light in that town for the first time, wa? struck wifch amazement. After gassing afc it for some time, she entered a grocery shop, and addressing the assistant said : " I say mister, how do you make thafc big light o' yours? I am tired of burning paraffin." The shopman replied : " Oh, it is oaused by a aeries of electric currents." "Oh, is ifc!" said the old woman. " Then weigh me a pound ; if they won't do for lighting, they'll come in for puddings,"
