MANUKA CREEK.
(From Our Own Correspondent)
The annual meeting of householders was held on the evening of the 25th. There was but a very poor attendance, barely enough to form a committee, It certainly looks very bad on the part of parents in the district that thoy cannot, or will not, spend a little of their time on behalf of the sohool ; with somo parents I could name it looks as if the whole of their interest in school matter- 11 ceased as Boon as their cHildren were educated ; othera again who have chiidrenattending the sohool hardly ever put in an appearance from one year's end to the other. Such a state of things is very disheartening to those who Bpend aome of their time in the interests of the school.
Mr James Pettigrew oooupied the chair, and called upon tho secretary (Mr R. Craig) to read the report aud ba'anoo- sheet for the past year, which was received and adopted,
The report showed that the echool was in a very good condition, and that tho pupils were doing good work under tbeir tencher Miss RalstcD, who is giving every Batisfac tion and deserves great credit for the zeal and energy whioh she puts into her work ; there was only one failure in the whole Bchool at the laat examination in Ootober. The committee have also managed to obtain a good deal of Decesßary improvementa during the year. Their receipta and expenditure for the year were as follows : Receipts L4O 13s 9d, including a balance from last year of L 9 3a; expenditure L2B 12**j 31, leaving a balance ef Ll2 Is 61 on the 31st of Maroh. Sinoe then, however, several accounts amounting to LI 6 13s have been presented, while the committee have alao reoeived from the Board a subsidy upon the proceeds of a concert held last year of L 5 7s, which, added to the balance on the 31st of Maroh, makes Ll7 8s 6i, so that tbe new committee commences with a balance of 15s 6d.
The following gentlemen were elected a oommittee for the ensuing year : Messrs Thomas Mackie (chairman), James Pettigrew, Duncan Ross, Hugh Muir, Adam M'Corkiudale, George Pettigrew, and Robert Craig (seoretary).
