■m - The Bruce Rifle Volunteers mustered in the hall on Wednesday night, 26 of all ranks on parade. Squad drill under the noncommissioned officers, and company movements under commissioned officers were gone through. After parade the commissioned offioer intimated tbat Sergt. M'Clymont, Corp. Boyle, Lockhart, and Moyes, Privates Archer, King, Comer, Burn, Dickson, A* Lockhart, M'Donald, Newbigging, and Stewart were entitled to efficiency badges, having been efficient volunteers for three years. The Defenoe Officers bave issued orders that all ammunition issued previous to 1887 is to be replaced by 1597 make, which ia better than any yet issued. Col. PolePenton, Webb, Gordon, and Newell are at present inspecting the defences of the colony, prior to reporting on their condition to the Government. Two additional companies and a cyole oorps are to be added to the Otago district. The High School Cadets continue to put in good work, and are still under the instruction of Mr W. F. Waters. Owing to the departure of George Turner for Dunedin, however, the oaptainoy has been assigned to Milne Adam.
