♦ [By " In Toocu."] LAWRENCE V MILTON. The Lawrence Club sent a team to meet the Milton Club on Wednesday, the matoh being played on the Recreation Ground. Uufortunately the visitors could not start until the afternoon and it waa consequently late ia the day when the matoh oommenoed. On liniDg out it was evident that there waa little advantage in weight on either aide. Taneley kicked off for Milton, who defended the northern goal. Immediately after kicking off the Lawrenoe team was put on the defensive and for some time Milton eeetird on the point of flooring. Finally Draper, receiving a neat pass from Grant, ran over the line near the oorner Comber's attempt at goal was unsuccessful (3-0). The Lawrenoe boys then gradually worked the play out of their own twenty-five and before the spell was over bad the local team in difficulties. The outoome of this was a force down and after the kiok out the play was pretty even until the end of the spelli no farther soore being registered. The play ia the Becond spell was particularly fast Bnd both sides were alternately in difficulties and only saved a soore by a luoky kiok or run, In the early part of the spell Grant made an excellent pot at goal, failing by only a few inohes, For the last fifteen minutes at least, it was too dark for aoourate play, and the game waß very uncertain. When the whistle blew the soore remained 3—o. Prominent among ihe Lawrenoe team were Sing Lee and Clarke (captain) and Ah Wing among the baoks, The forwards were a pretty even lot, none of them showing very brilliant play. Of the Milton team Kelly, at full back, was as usual safe ; .Draper and Grant played up to their usual form, and Nelson and Archer both put in a deal of good work towards the 9nd of the game, although the latter was deoidedly off oolor at the beginning. Tamer and T, Grant, at half-baok, left little to be desired, and fed the three-quarters very unselfishly when the game permitted. Among the forwards JDansley, Comber, J. Bryoe.and Moyes were the moat prominent, J. M'Murtrie and others doing good work. Mr Reid (Lawrence) aoted as referee, and was assisted by Messrs J. M'Leod and J. M'Tigue as line umpires, and together they controlled the g*me very satisfactorily.
