CORRESPONDENCE

~-%» We do not hold ourselves responsible for the opinions expressed by our correspondents, ST. JOHN'S CHURCH. __% TO the editor. Sir, — A paragraph in to-day's Herald says : " Tha services in St. John's Church on Sunday were especially for children . < the Bet vices being such as would appeal mora particularly to the younger members of the congregation." Now, it is very evident that your paragraphia! was nos present at the services, or the wording of these sentences would have been in another way. Tbe hymns were all children's hymns so-called, but were equally enjoyed by the adults lam sure ; but the sermons were an appeal on behalf of the children to those on whom they are dependent for epiiitual training aod care in their own homes, in tbeir Sunday School, and in their Church. What is the use of appealing to ohildren themselveß merely, when they can move neither hand nor foot in these matters, except as allowed or directed by their parents or guardians in their own homes, having at the same time the Bwaying majority of the whole voting and legislative powers of the conntry against the due recognition of God's holy gospel word in the public ecbools whioh they daily attend ? But believiog what the children's da viour Baid, 'It ia not tbe will of your Father wbich is in Heaven that one of these little ones bhould perish," we lift our voioe from time to time on their behalf, notwithstanding laws and doctrines and practices in neglect of training to the contrary, trusting that their birthright as ChrUtain children will soon be publicly reoognised again in our day sohools as it ought to be. — I am, ko,, D. 0. Hampton. P,S. — Could not cur High School Com* mittee have tbe weekly religious instruction given as before by the local mm stera in tho school ? We are, I think, all well enough and willing enough to resume after their long suspension. — D.O. H. St. John's, February 12. [Although the " paragraphlst " was not, as Mr Hampton observes, at the service, he ottiined h a information from an officebearer of St. John's Church.— Ed. B. H.)
